IRS Launches New Website Devoted to Affordable Care Act Information

There has been almost nonstop discussion of the effects of the Affordable Care Act  (ACA – aka Obamacare) since the bill was passed. However, many individuals and business owners are still confused regarding how implementation of the law will affect them. To help alleviate this problem the IRS has has launched a new Affordable Care Act Tax Provisions website at IRS.gov/aca. The home page of the site has three sections, which explain the tax benefits and responsibilities for individuals and families, employers, and other organizations. The site provides information about tax provisions that are in effect now as well as those that will go into effect in 2014 and beyond. The IRS is not the only agency which will be responsible for the administration of the ACA. The Department of Health and Human Services actually has primary responsibility for it. In fact, some of the most useful information available  through the IRS ACA site is a link to the Department of Health and Human Services (www.HealthCare.gov), where information about the insurance marketplace can be found. The marketplace begins enrollment on October 1st, 2013. The IRS has also issued a new Web-based flyer to help taxpayers find the information available from various federal agencies: Healthcare Law Online Resources (Publication 5093).
